Clovis smoking ordinance takes effect
There'll be no more lighting up in several public outdoor areas in Clovis.
That's because a "no smoking" ordinance is now in effect as of August 8.
It applies to all city parks, bike trails, and sports fields.
Those violating the new law can be slapped with a 50 dollar fine.
However, because there are no signs posted at those locations yet, the city will focus more on educating the people, rather than enforcing the new regulation.

This is a waste of time and energy on the part of the city, if it is the "trash" created by smoking that is the problem then how about having public ashtrays available to smokers who are at the park or on a bike trail ect. As for those who don't smoke being affected by the smoke of somebody smoking outside, where else are they suppose to smoke? We've kicked them out of resturants and bars, let them go have a picnic in peace.
Looks like KSEE 24 missed the point concerning the new ordinance in Clovis. It seemed to me they were more concerned with the amount of cigarette butts littering their parks, not the smoke itself. Afterall, to think that second hand smoke can be more harmful than the emissions from our automobiles or other sources is ludicrous. Is someone beating the anti smoking drum at KSEE 24? Try to stay more objective in the future.
Yeah! I can finally enjoy the great outdoors and not worry about having an asthma attack caused by cigarette smoke. I will now be able to take my grandchildren to a park and enjoy being outdoors with them. Great Job Clovis Council!!
Clovis ought to instate a reverse-curfew, instead. Smoking is restricted between the hours of 7AM-9PM on weekdays and 8AM-10PM on weekends.
